Mechanical Engineer

The mechanical engineer oversees the design of equipment and processes for potential and active projects and ensures accurate plans are completed according to customer specifications. Provides technical engineering knowledge to assist with designing and developing new equipment and prototypes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Staying up to date with new and emerging manufacturing processes to aid in research and development, new applications for existing lines of equipment, and the design of new forms of technology.
  • Provide technical support to the sales, test lab, and engineering/project management staff in an easily comprehensible manner to non-technically trained personnel.
  • Designing, planning, and implementing the layout of manufacturing equipment, and drying/cooling (thermal) processes, in particular, to optimize production and decrease customer costs.
  • Submits drawings for peer review and, at times, customer evaluation. Interface with outside entities in developing and critiquing processes designed by others.
  • Obtains job sheets from sales quotes and oversees the preparation of preliminary drawings based upon these specifications. Consults with a salesperson to verify equipment meets the specifications on job sheets.
  • Possess a working knowledge concerning process controls and logic.
  • Ability to generate and interpret a P&ID
  • Plans and executes commissioning and post-commissioning support both in the field and remotely. Must be willing to travel on a limited basis.
  • Responds to customer equipment problems by reviewing customer files, determining the nature of the problem, and researching and developing a solution to ensure the equipment operates properly and the customer is satisfied.
  • Performs other responsibilities and special projects as assigned.


Education/Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering. Demonstrated ability to use computer-assisted engineering (CAE) systems and computer-assisted design (CAD) systems in the design of various equipment (reactor vessels, drying equipment, cooling equipment, etc.) Demonstrated ability to work with processes modeling software (such as CHEMCAD, Aspen) and demonstrated ability to develop working models in-house (via Excel, Python, etc.) Demonstrated mastery of thermo-dynamic principles as applied to cooling and drying systems design. Working knowledge of chemical and physical properties of materials such as (but not limited to) heat capacity, thermal conductivity, pH, hydrophilicity/Hydrophobicity, and thixotropy/dilatancy

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret standard scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, differentials, summations, permutations, etc. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply logical or scientific thought principles to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables/constructs.

Physical Demands: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
